iF Design Award for ABB ACS380-E – Celebrating the new ABB/Edea collaboration

ABB ACS380-E has won the prestigious iF Design Award 2026—a globally recognized mark of outstanding designin the Product Design category. The jury praised ACS380-E for combining high customization, advanced connectivity, and a modular structure into a drive designed to power the next generation of machines.

For us at Edea Design, the iF Design Awards marks a moment of shared pride. As ABB’s trusted design partner over several decades, we have stood by their side through decades of development, creating designs that are both visually striking and deeply functional. We have worked together with ABB to build a design legacy recognised globally, with numerous international awards over the years. The success of the ACS830-E marks the latest chapter in this journey.

The ACS380‑E drive expresses ABB’s distinctive design language through its iconic five‑corner panel design and refined chamfered side surfaces. The new ACS380-E resembles its predecessor, while having more modern and premium appearance that elevates the ABB brand. The glossy black interface zone gives a premium feel that aligns well with the drive’s superb cybersecurity capabilities.

At the core of the design is the new modular structure that allows customers to easily select only the desired features and option modules for their drives, even after delivery. Freedom to choose features via stackable modules, together with adjustable cover part reduce environmental impact.

The drive now has loads of new connectivity features. Based on the user feedback the ethernet and USB-C ports are located on top front corner to be easy to find and connect. The display and keypad module is now optional. The familiar UI structure is mostly maintained. Symbols have been improved and they are now supported with text. Higher contrast display and larger viewing window improve readability. The new clever ejection mechanism that enables secure, effortless module removal highlighs the excellent user experience.
