Effective design work starts early

We recommend initiating the design process well in advance, preferably even before the final product specifications are drafted. Starting early provides the opportunity to gain profound user understanding when it matters most. Based on the acquired insights, development efforts can be focused on the most critical aspects for users. Simultaneously, secondary matters that would unnecessarily consume resources can be excluded.

The earlier design methods are employed, the better the avoidance of changes and corrections in later stages of product development. As a result, the process becomes more efficient, and the costs of product development decrease significantly. Ideally, this process also gives rise to entirely new, radical innovations.

Grasping user understanding

For the early stages of product development, we have developed the Design Puzzle™ method. It ensures that the acquired user data is of high quality and provides in-depth understanding. User understanding is crucial not only for product specification but also because early design enhances the overall product design and outcome.

Once we have identified and understood the real needs of different user groups, we shape products to meet people’s goals, making them desirable and profitable. At the same time, a positive and seamless user experience is created.

A successful user experience is, for example, when charging an electric car is quick and effortless. We designed charging stations and their user interfaces for Ensto, considering the entire consumption chain from installation to daily ease of use.

Prepare for the future

User understanding is complemented by future awareness. We explore future phenomena and analyze trends that impact product design and market requirements. This ensures that the solutions we develop align with people’s goals not only now but also in the future.

One example of our work is with Fingrid, where we outlined global development trajectories and created a monitoring system that adapts to rapid changes.

Evolving design and technology trends require continuous monitoring, as new technologies, materials, and integrable smart solutions are constantly emerging. One influential aspect in design is sustainability and environmental friendliness, considering alternative or recyclable materials, energy efficiency, and low-carbon production processes. User understanding and future-oriented thinking inherently support sustainable development, as they naturally generate products that stand the test of time.

Design plays a central role in product development. It is an efficient tool that proves its value throughout the entire project planning process. Want to discuss a new design project? Give us call or book a meeting with us!
